Biking at the Beach: The 2014 Los Angeles River Ride

On Sunday, June 22, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) hosted the 14th annual Los Angeles River Ride. The event was hosted at the Autry National Center in Griffith Park and near the Aquarium of the Pacific at Shoreline Aquatic Park, where Long Beach Airport (LGB) staff and volunteers greeted the riders.

The Los Angeles River Ride provides participants 10 different rides to choose from, ranging from a 100-mile ride to a 15-mile family ride. The event featured free food, music, and goodies provided by sponsors including LGB. LGB was on hand with chapstick, sunscreen, dog bandanas, and more.

Pilot Don Guichard and his wife, both avid bikers, came from Huntington Beach to enjoy the festivities. “Wherever your marriage is going, a tandem will take you there faster,” joked Guichard.

Grand Marshal Damian Kevitt and MC Dorothy Le pumped up participants and passersby. Taiwanese techno dancers and a bluegrass band provided opportunities for photos, singing, and dancing.
LACBC was founded in 1998 in order to build a more bikeable LA County.
