LGB in the Sky, Dragon Boats on the Water

The faint rhythm of the drums at the 2013 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival are remembered after a delightful weekend at Marine Stadium.

LGB Public Affairs and Volunteers, Michele York, Eileen Shock, Paul Koons, and Gloria Curry, at your service.

Teams ready their boats.
The event is one of the largest dragon boat competitions in California. Long Beach Airport (LGB) was present to support and enjoy the festivities. Competitors ranged from breast cancer survivors, middle school, and college students. Over 100 teams participated and each team includes 30 people. The myriad of competitors provided a good show for the excited crowd cheering on their favorite team.

Dragon Boat Racing is a sport that has existed in China for thousands of years. In recent times, folks go to the Dragon Boat Races to support their favorite team and to experience the culture. Throughout the festival onlookers were able to sample traditional Chinese food, martial arts, and watch costumed dancers perform.

A lovely day to watch the races!

Bon Voyage and Good Luck to the Army National Guard

Long Beach Airport (LGB) had the privilege of seeing off a group of Army National Guard from the Redondo Avenue Facility on Monday, July 1.

LGB's Small Thanks to the Troops

The group of  nearly 100 soldiers will make their first stop at Fort Bliss in Texas where they will endure a few weeks of training before they head to Afghanistan for a 9 month deployment.

It was a pleasure serving you!

Staff at the Airport wished them good luck; then sent them off with a cookie and orange juice before they boarded the Sierra Pacific Air charter.

How can we help you?

Bon voyage! We can't wait to welcome you all back!
