Project Scientist STEM students travel to the Long Beach Airport to learn about Physics with the JetBlue Foundation

“Project Scientist empowers girls who show passion and talent for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

JetBlue hosted 75 young girls from the Project Scientist STEM expedition at Long Beach Airport in early July. These girls get to experience working with top companies and universities with a different theme each week. Because last week’s theme was Physics, the program led the girls to the Long Beach Airport to oversee JetBlue’s operation by meeting with the crew members and touring the facilities. During their tour, the girls got the chance to visit the baggage area, ticket counter, and aircraft maintenance.

STEM allows low income girls, ages 4-12, to have the opportunity to learn hands on and explore their passion in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The JetBlue Foundation has been kind enough to award six grants that total up to $150,000 for aviation programs to show their support to the STEM organization. They strive to educate students in aviation; so that they could be more prepared if they hope to have a career in aviation. Thanks to these grants, these programs are able to continue to help underserved communities which include women, veterans, and minority groups. The JetBlue Foundation also seeks to help the next generation of professionals in aviation.

The JetBlue foundation was founded in 2013, and since then has provided $350,000 of grants to help aviation programs take off.  The JetBlue Foundation has remained connected closely with 20 aviation programs.

Note: The JetBlue Foundation is legally independent from JetBlue and has a separate Board of Directors and an Advisory Committee that are both made up from JetBlue crew members from the entire airline.
