LGB in the Sky, Dragon Boats on the Water
The faint rhythm of the drums at the 2013 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival are remembered after a delightful weekend at Marine Stadium.
The event is one of the largest dragon boat competitions in California. Long Beach Airport (LGB) was present to support and enjoy the festivities. Competitors ranged from breast cancer survivors, middle school, and college students. Over 100 teams participated and each team includes 30 people. The myriad of competitors provided a good show for the excited crowd cheering on their favorite team.
Dragon Boat Racing is a sport that has existed in China for thousands of years. In recent times, folks go to the Dragon Boat Races to support their favorite team and to experience the culture. Throughout the festival onlookers were able to sample traditional Chinese food, martial arts, and watch costumed dancers perform.
